The name Fornelli it perhaps derives from a kiln for the production of fired bricks present in the town in ancient times and at the service of the abbey of San Vincenzo. Fornelli, in fact, is characterized by soil rich in clay. The castle is located at the main entrance of Fornelli, Piazza Umberto I, which still shows the characteristics of a walled village; this is equipped with circular lookout towers, the shoe base. The castle is spread over two levels, the ground floor used for the furnaces and the upper floor for the lord's residence. In 1744 the King of Naples Charles III of Bourbon lived there. At the entrance to the town there is a sign saying "Fornelli: one of the most beautiful villages in Italy" and one can only agree! Small rocky town, full of flowers and very suggestive. Restaurants and bars available and friendly. Nice view. Recommended to visit!

Already entering the town it says it all "one of the most beautiful villages in Italy" narrow streets uphill downhill the castle is really beautiful if you are in Molise go there immediately

Well-maintained medieval village with well-preserved and walkable city walls where you can relax and enjoy spectacular sunsets. The maze of narrow streets embellished with plants and flowers is accessed through three doors. The inhabitants are kind and friendly and in the evening you cannot miss a dinner at the restaurant. One of the most beautiful medieval villages in Italy. Very pretty, full of flowers, alleys and views to discover. The view is also beautiful. Interesting to visit, 4 stars only because it could be valued more. Almost zero commercial activities and apart from the village bar we only saw one other closed... a few more commercial activities would be enough and perhaps to create some guide mines of the village to make it a tourist destination absolutely worth visiting.

Very small medieval village. The walk was pleasant: you can get around in half an hour... everything 😉! The presence of plaques with phrases and/or indications of the way of life of the past is nice. Too bad we couldn't visit the church, perhaps due to the time …

Enchanting village, very well preserved and equally well cared for. Thanks also to the almost intact panorama that can be admired from the various sides of the walk on the walls of the fortified citadel, you can easily project yourself into the past. A truly rewarding and enjoyable visit.
